Windpower

America is experiencing the dawn of an exciting period in the manufacturing and deployment of windpower electric generation systems. Windpower will be the first energy sector worked by SectorFive Technologies.

Several windpower companies have selected Iowa to locate manufacturing and / or assembly operations, including Clipper Windpower (Cedar Rapids, IA) and Acciona (West Branch, IA). Clipper started assembly operations in mid 2006. Clipper has a substantial backlog of orders, with over 1,000 units awaiting production. Priced at over $4 million each, this represents over $4 billion in revenue.

Dale Feauto, President, SectorFive, began leading a team providing custom fabrication and construction services to Clipper Windpower in mid 2006. The project included the installation of overhead cranes and jib cranes. Also manufactured and installed were two test stands for testing Clipper’s massive gearboxes for vibration, heat levels, oil contamination and torque. The stands are then employed to break in the gear boxes for a period of 6 to 48 hours, depending on gearbox performance.
